Quieter than the average hostel, with a separate lounge for people who want to read. Practical details worth knowing: privacy curtains on bunks and rooftop social bar. The kitchen is properly equipped and cleaned twice a day.

The one to book in Hoan Kiem
I nearly booked somewhere flashier and I am glad I did not. They keep a jar of sweets by the lift that nobody admits to eating from. Not a mark anywhere, and the room smelled of nothing at all, which is exactly right.
Genuinely nothing worth writing down.

Perfectly decent
Reception were helpful when we needed a doctor's address, which we appreciated. Good base for a few nights: clean dorm, big lockers, decent kitchen; plenty of places to eat within a short walk, most of them reasonably priced.
Street parking is free after half past nine and impossible before it.

Wanted to like it more
Wanted to like it more than we did. We slept well: the room is dark, cool and quiet after ten. Kitchen is well enough equipped for simple cooking.
The bathroom is clean but the fittings belong to a previous decade.

Happy we booked it
Third time in Hanoi and the first time we have got the hotel right. They kept my rucksack until the evening flight and even brought them down to the taxi. Ended up on the walking tour with four people from my dorm and we were still out at midnight. Within two streets there is a noodle counter and a proper greengrocer, so we ate well and cheaply.
Mosquitoes in the evening once the doors are open - the shop on the corner sells the plug-ins.

Regretted it by the second night
It is quiet during the day, if that is any use to anyone.
I would have moved out on the first night if anything else had been free. The kitchen was missing most of what you would need to cook, despite the listing. The room smelled strongly of damp and the window did not open to air it out. It needs a refurbishment rather than another coat of paint, and the price has not caught up with that.

Would book again on price
The room was cleaned properly every day and the bins were never left.
Dust on the top of the wardrobe and behind the door, which I noticed on the third day.
