Reliable rather than exciting
Somebody had left a shelf of paperbacks by the window and I got through two of them. The desk kept an eye out for me without making a thing of it. Check-in was straightforward and the desk answered questions properly. The Bed in 4-bed dorm with bathroom is well organised and everything has somewhere to go.
For the money I expected a little more attention to detail.

Not for us
Room was warm enough in December, which was the main worry.
The dorm was not cleaned between guests on the Friday. The bathroom fan runs for twenty minutes after you leave and is loud.

Spoiled us completely
Family dinner in the kitchen on Wednesday for almost nothing and I met half the hostel - the kettle was already descaled, which is the kind of detail that tells you how a place is run.

Nothing worked as advertised
It is quiet during the day, if that is any use to anyone. Samir on the desk was kind about it, which is more than the place deserves.
This is the first bad review I have written in years. There was mould in the corner of the bathroom ceiling and the extractor did not work. The bathroom door did not shut and the toilet ran all night.

Slept like a stone
Turned up late, tired and grumpy, and were looked after. Cheaper than the chain hotels two streets over and considerably nicer. Bunks have curtains, a plug and a light each, which is all anyone actually wants. Spotless, including the places nobody checks - skirting boards, the kettle, under the bed.
Check-in is not until four and there is nowhere comfortable to wait.

Faultless from start to finish
Underfloor heating in the bathroom in September is a small luxury that we noticed every morning. Staff run things properly - keycard on the dorm door, quiet hours actually enforced.
