A mid-sized hotel with a lift, a bar and a late front desk, ten minutes on foot from British Museum. Guests rate it for family rooms available and 24-hour front desk. Location does most of the work here, and it does it well.

No surprises, good or bad
The desk kept an eye out for me without making a thing of it.
Delivery vans start up under the window from around quarter past seven. It is uphill from the metro, which you feel with my bags in the heat.

The lowest point of the trip
The morning coffee was fine, which is a thin thing to end on. They did refund the second night without arguing, so credit for that.
I reported a broken shower on arrival and it was still broken when I left two days later. Noise from the bar downstairs went on past two every night and the walls do nothing. The heating did not work properly for the first four nights and the fix took until the first day.

Location good, room less so
There is a coffee machine in the room, which saved us a few euros a day. The room was cleaned properly every day and the bins were never left.
The staircase is narrow and steep, so allow a minute or two more than you think.

Passable, at a push
The gym has what you need for a week away and is never busy. There is a coffee machine in the room, which saved me a few euros a day. South Bank is pleasant to wander in the evening, and nothing felt far. South Bank is a sensible base, a few streets back from the crowds and still close to everything.
The bathroom fan runs for forty minutes after you leave and is loud. Thin walls, so I knew a fair amount about my neighbours and their travel plans.

Handy for Buckingham Palace
Half board with a children's sitting at six meant we ate dinner in peace afterwards. They keep a jar of sweets by the lift that nobody admits to eating from.
A second bedside lamp and a couple more sockets would finish the room off.

Easy to recommend
Went in with low expectations after the last place. Travelling on my own, I never felt uneasy walking back into South Bank late at night. I booked for three nights and extended to five, which tells you what I thought of the price. Proper shower pressure and hot water immediately, not after a minute of hoping.
Loading and unloading outside is awkward on a street that narrow.
