A mid-sized hotel with a lift, a bar and a late front desk, ten minutes on foot from Temple of Literature. Guests rate it for fitness centre open 24/7 and family rooms available. Rooms on the upper floors are the same price and considerably quieter.

Right for a short stay
A bell rings somewhere nearby on the hour and we stopped noticing it by the second day. Good position overall, and we walked most places rather than paying for cabs.
The last two hundred metres are steep and cobbled - not a problem, just plan for it. The bathroom is clean but the fittings belong to a previous decade.

Fine, and fine is enough
Not fancy, but that was never the point. You get more for the money here than at the two places we priced up in Hoan Kiem. The gym has what you need for a week away and is never busy.
The bathroom fan runs for twenty minutes after you leave and is loud.

No complaints, no fireworks
both boys were happy, which is most of the review. You get more for the money here than at the two places we priced up in Hoan Kiem. Pleasant bar for a nightcap, and they do not rush you out of it. Hoan Kiem is pleasant to wander in the evening, and nothing felt far.
It is showing its age in places - a chipped door frame here, a tired carpet there.

One night too many
The restaurant is convenient and priced about where you would expect; good spread at breakfast and they keep the coffee coming. They keep a pillow menu at reception and actually bring what you ask for.
The keycards demagnetised twice and we had to go back down to the desk.

Spoiled us completely
The front door code worked every time, which sounds like a low bar until you have stayed somewhere it did not. Luggage storage on the last day meant a proper final afternoon rather than dragging cases about. Twenty minutes to the conference centre, laundry back same day, invoice correct first time.
Nothing worth docking a point for.

Hard to recommend at this rate
A desk of a usable size, a proper chair and sockets where you need them. Our flight landed at one in the morning and the man on the desk still made us a tea. We slept well: the room is dark, cool and quiet after ten.
For the money we expected a little more attention to detail. The extractor does not cope, so the mirror is useless after the first shower.
