Hotel Grand Midtown has been part of Midtown for years, and it shows in the way the front desk talks about the area. Worth knowing before you arrive: soundproofed rooms, plus fitness centre open 24/7. Reviews are consistent year after year, which is the best sign there is.

Nice staff, tired building
Parking is available and reasonably priced for the area. Connection was good enough to work from for a morning.
Housekeeping missed us entirely on the Tuesday. The heating is on a timer and goes off at about half past ten, which in December you feel by morning.

Passable, at a push
Some of this worked, some of it did not. The shuttle runs on the hour and drops you right at the terminal. Location is the strong point - ten minutes to Empire State Building and a metro stop close by.
Everything on site is priced for people not counting, from the water to the laundry. The heating did not work properly for the first five nights and the fix took until the third day.

Tired and overpriced
Easy place to stay on your own, and the area is fine to walk at night. Nadia at the desk was the standout - patient and genuinely useful.
Scaffolding went up on the building opposite halfway through my stay. The desk was stretched thin and it showed - three requests went unanswered.

Falls short of the description
Two nights, and two would have been plenty. My flight landed at one in the morning and the man on the desk still made me a tea. Pleasant bar for a nightcap, and they do not rush you out of it.
Check-in is not until four and there is nowhere comfortable to wait.

Good spot, tired rooms
Efficient and predictable, which is what a two-night work trip needs. Reasonably peaceful at the back of the building.
The shower takes a good minute to warm up, which adds up over four days. The radiator clanked from about seven every morning.

Half worked, half didn't
Mixed feelings about this one. Fair value for New York prices, particularly in high season. the little one were happy, which is most of the review. Midtown is pleasant to wander in the evening, and nothing felt far.
The extractor does not cope, so the mirror is useless after the first shower.
