9.0Easy stay, no dramas
Nobody made me feel odd about eating alone, and the desk checked I had got back on the wet night.

6.4Not quite worth it
Fine, with caveats. Birgu is a sensible base, a few streets back from the crowds and still close to everything. Breakfast is solid rather than lavish - a cheese and ham plate and reliable coffee. A desk of a usable size, a proper chair and sockets where you need them.
It is a good seven minutes from the nearest tram stop, further than the listing suggests. There is construction across the street that starts at half past seven, so bring earplugs.

7.1Fine, but not at that price
Clean bed linen, clean towels, clean floors. That is the main thing. Fine for a work trip: quiet floor, quick breakfast, cab rank outside.
The restaurant is fine but you would not choose it if you were not already staying there. There is one toaster for the whole room, so there is a queue at ten.

7.6No complaints, no fireworks
Good position overall, and I walked most places rather than paying for cabs; quiet from about ten at night, once the bar downstairs empties out. The desk kept an eye out for me without making a thing of it.
The bed is too firm for me - I ended up putting the spare duvet under the sheet.

2.3A bad three nights
One of the cleaners was lovely and clearly working with nothing.
We reported a broken shower on arrival and it was still broken when we left two days later. The room smelled strongly of damp and the window did not open to air it out.

8.9Restful and central
The kettle was already descaled, which is the kind of detail that tells you how a place is run. Nobody made me feel odd about eating alone, and the desk checked I had got back on the wet night.
Parking nearby is expensive, though that is Valletta rather than the hotel. Only one socket by the bed, and the switch for it is behind the headboard.
