Does the important things well
Elke sat with me over a map on the first evening and half my trip came out of that conversation. The neighbour opposite waters her balcony at seven every morning and says hello.
No full-length mirror anywhere in the Twin Room.

Location carries it
Third time in Helsinki and the first time we have got the hotel right. The owners are kind and the breakfast is homemade, which counts for a lot.
One radiator for the whole room, and in November that is not quite enough.

Fifteen rooms, one very good coffee machine and a courtyard nobody talks in above a murmur.

Very good, minor niggles
Homemade cake at four in the afternoon, whether or not you asked for it. They lent us an umbrella on the wet Tuesday and did not ask for it back until we left. Astonishingly quiet for somewhere this central - we never heard the street once.
Shower pressure drops off when the floor is busy at about seven. One person on the desk at ten in the evening means a queue when the airport bus arrives.

Pleasant few nights
Booked this on a whim and glad we did. Records in the room, a proper armchair and the morning coffee that would hold up in any city. The radiator clanked at about two in the morning and then settled down, and honestly we grew fond of it.
We were reminded about the half past ten checkout twice on the Tuesday, which felt unnecessary.

One to avoid at this price
The room was at least clean when I arrived.
Wifi drops in the far rooms, so I took calls in the lobby. You cannot set the aircon below twenty-three, which in March is not quite enough.
