Good bones, tired edges
The owners are kind and the breakfast is homemade, which counts for a lot; parking is available and reasonably priced for the area.
The last two hundred metres are steep and cobbled - not a problem, just plan for it.

Comfortable beds, good coffee
Would come back tomorrow. Youssef sat with us over a map on the first evening and half our trip came out of that conversation. Hard to beat the position: Tel Aviv Promenade one way, the market the other, and no need for a taxi all week.
Check-in is not until four and there is nowhere comfortable to wait.

The one to book in Rothschild
Travelling on my own, I never felt uneasy walking back into Rothschild late at night. Not a mark anywhere, and the room smelled of nothing at all, which is exactly right. Fast, stable wifi in the room rather than only in the lobby, which is rarer than it should be.

Quiet and central, kind staff
For what we paid in September, this was the best value stay of the trip by a distance. The radiator clanked at about two in the morning and then settled down, and honestly we grew fond of it. Opened the shutters on the first morning and just stood there for a minute.

Really rather good
The courtyard rooms hear nothing but pigeons, which is the whole point - there is a good market on Saturday about fifteen minutes away that nobody had told us about.
The keycards demagnetised twice and we had to go back down to the desk. The shower head is fixed high on the wall and cannot be angled.

Several things went wrong
Not a disaster, just not what I expected. The Family Suite is at least well laid out for the size.
The bathroom fan runs for forty minutes after you leave and is loud. Footsteps from the floor above from around half past six each morning.
