Quiet and central, kind staff
Someone has planted herbs in pots by the door and you are clearly meant to use them. Luggage storage on the last day meant a proper final afternoon rather than dragging cases about.
Nothing - we have already looked at dates for next year.

Quiet room, great coffee
Cheaper than the chain hotels two streets over and considerably nicer. Nobody made me feel odd about eating alone, and the desk checked I had got back on the wet night.
Nothing worth docking a point for.

Frustrating from the start
Room was warm enough in November, which was the main worry; the Cosy Room is at least well laid out for the size.
The wall to the corridor carries every conversation, and there was one at eleven on the Thursday. You have to log in again every day, which is a small irritation that adds up over two nights.

Downtown LA done properly
Booked late and got lucky. A bell rings somewhere nearby on the hour and we stopped noticing it by the second day. The terrace is small but nobody else seems to use it, so it became ours.
No complaints from us this time.

Friendly and well run
Travelling on my own, I never felt uneasy walking back into Downtown LA late at night.
Loading and unloading outside is awkward on a street that narrow.

Book it and stop looking
Records in the room, a proper armchair and the espresso that would hold up in any city. Within two streets there is a noodle counter and a proper greengrocer, so we ate well and cheaply.
The walk back to the station on the Friday, and that is scraping.
