Would not book again
Plenty of places to eat within a short walk, most of them reasonably priced.
Everything on site is priced for people not counting, from the water to the laundry. The extractor does not cope, so the mirror is useless after the first shower.

Easy to recommend
Dimitri sat with us over a map on the first evening and half our trip came out of that conversation. Easy to park right outside and no hunting around at midnight. For Rio de Janeiro, this is a properly central spot without the coach parties.
We were reminded about the nine checkout twice on the Wednesday, which felt unnecessary.

Everything we hoped for
The garden at the back is where we spent every evening with a bottle of something local.
The walk back to the station on the Wednesday, and that is scraping.

No surprises, good or bad
The owners are kind and the breakfast is homemade, which counts for a lot. The view over the rooftops from the balcony is a proper one. Comfortable bed, and they brought firmer pillows within ten minutes of asking.
The bathroom light is on a motion sensor and comes on if you turn over in bed.

Poor value in Botafogo
Being eight minutes from Copacabana Beach was the one thing that worked in its favour.
The furniture is dated and the corridors could do with a repaint. The staircase is narrow and steep, so allow a minute or two more than you think.

Happy we booked it
Third time in Rio de Janeiro and the first time we have got the hotel right. Samir sat with us over a map on the first evening and half our trip came out of that conversation. Samir on reception had us checked in inside three minutes and drew a map of the area on the spot.
We were reminded about the half past nine checkout twice on the Sunday, which felt unnecessary.
