Genuinely special
Third time in Rio de Janeiro and the first time we have got the hotel right. Slept better than at home, which after four flights in a week is saying something. The spa is the real thing rather than a room with a massage table - we booked twice.

Book it and stop looking
We nearly booked somewhere flashier and I am glad we did not. Underfloor heating in the bathroom in November is a small luxury that we noticed every morning. Small breakfast, but everything on the table was good - warm bread and good jam and a pot of proper coffee.
Nothing that belongs in this box.

Happy we booked it
Half board with a children's sitting at six meant we ate dinner in peace afterwards. The staff pointed us to a noodle counter round the corner and it became our regular. Not a mark anywhere, and the room smelled of nothing at all, which is exactly right.
The walk back to the station on the Wednesday, and that is scraping.

A find
Sauna hot enough to be worth the walk out in October. both boys were in the pool from nine until they were dragged out, and the shallow end is properly shallow.
Nothing worth mentioning, and that is rare.

Small place, big heart
Good toiletries in refillable bottles, and towels changed without being asked twice. The radiator clanked at about two in the morning and then settled down, and honestly we grew fond of it.
The shower door leaks a little onto the bathroom floor.

five minutes from Selarón Steps
Turned up late, tired and grumpy, and were looked after. Parking on site and free, which in Rio de Janeiro saved us more than the room rate difference. They put a cot in without being asked and left a small plate of fruit for both boys.
