6.8Falls short of the description
Oerlikon is pleasant to wander in the evening, and nothing felt far. I left a charger behind and it arrived at home nine days later, no charge for the postage. Nobody blinked at a table for one, which is not true everywhere.
Breakfast is the same every day, which by the second morning I had noticed. Wifi drops in the far rooms, so I took calls in the lobby.

9.4We have already rebooked
Turned up late, tired and grumpy, and were looked after. We ended up in the same corner cafe three mornings running, which tells you something about Oerlikon. Youssef sat with us over a map on the first evening and half our trip came out of that conversation. They lent us an umbrella on the wet Tuesday and did not ask for it back until we left.

8.4Lovely, if you don't mind stairs
The courtyard rooms hear nothing but pigeons, which is the whole point. Walking back from Lake Zurich after dinner took twelve minutes and never once felt like a trek.
The keycards demagnetised twice and we had to go back down to the desk.

Oerlikon is a sensible base, a few streets back from the crowds and still close to everything. Someone has planted herbs in pots by the door and you are clearly meant to use them.
There is a bar on the corner that empties out noisily on a Friday night.

Booked this on a whim and glad we did. The window in the bathroom looks straight onto a wall covered in jasmine. Records in the room, a proper armchair and the morning coffee that would hold up in any city.
No kettle in the room, which for a British guest is practically a design flaw.

6.2Tired and overpriced
Not a disaster, just not what we expected. The front door code worked every time, which sounds like a low bar until you have stayed somewhere it did not. The bathroom is cleverly laid out and the shower is hot and fast.
Stairs only to the third floor, which was fine for us but would not suit everyone. Scaffolding went up on the building opposite halfway through our stay.
