Falls short of the description
Uluwatu is pleasant to wander in the evening, and nothing felt far.
Check-in is not until four and there is nowhere comfortable to wait. The carpet on the fifth floor is due for replacing.

The best night's sleep of the trip
Third time in Bali and the first time we have got the hotel right. Plenty of storage in the Two-Bedroom Family Villa, which sounds dull until you have unpacked for a fortnight. Swimming before breakfast, sand rinsed off at the outdoor shower, then straight to the terrace. The kettle was already descaled, which is the kind of detail that tells you how a place is run.
Nothing worth mentioning, and that is rare.

Slept like a stone
Late nights out and nobody once tutted at us coming in at three. The sea is genuinely a two-minute walk, not the ten minutes some places call beachfront.
Only one socket by the bed, and the switch for it is behind the headboard. Hot water was slow to arrive on the third floor first thing.

Nearly perfect
Plenty of storage in the Overwater Pool Villa, which sounds dull until you have unpacked for a fortnight. Double glazing that works, so the tram going past is a rumour rather than an event. Swam before breakfast every day with the place to myself. Two nights in and we were sleeping through until eight, which never happens for us.
Parking nearby is expensive, though that is Bali rather than the hotel.

Lovely, if you don't mind stairs
We arrived hours early and they took my rucksack without a fuss, then messaged when the room was ready. Our taxi driver could not find the entrance and drove past it twice, so save the map pin.
Only the weather, which is hardly their doing.

Hard to recommend at this rate
Booked on the photographs, which was my mistake. Beach access is easy and there is a shower to rinse off on the way back.
It is a long walk from the far block to the restaurant, and the buggy takes forty minutes to come.
