8.9Ask for a room at the back
Long weekend, first time in Nowa Huta. Not a mark anywhere, and the room smelled of nothing at all, which is exactly right. Nowa Huta has that mix of locals and visitors that makes a place feel alive rather than staged. Underfloor heating in the bathroom in December is a small luxury that we noticed every morning.
We were reminded about the half past nine checkout twice on the Sunday, which felt unnecessary.

Somebody has thought about the art on the walls, and it shows in a way photographs do not capture. For what we paid in December, this was the best value stay of the trip by a distance.

7.0A stay of two halves
The Cosy Room suited us well for a short stay. Pleasant bar for a nightcap, and they do not rush you out of it. The terrace is a good place to sit with a book in the late afternoon.
The bathroom door catches on the bed frame, which tells you the size of the Cosy Room.

Travelling on my own, I never felt uneasy walking back into Nowa Huta late at night.
The shower head is fixed high on the wall and cannot be angled.

8.4Well run and welcoming
A cat lives in the courtyard and considers the chairs to be hers. Late nights out and nobody once tutted at us coming in at three.
The bathroom light is on a motion sensor and comes on if you turn over in bed.

7.5Reliable rather than exciting
The restaurant is convenient and priced about where you would expect. I slept well: the room is dark, cool and quiet after ten.
Waiting fifteen seconds for the lift each time adds up when you go back for a jumper.
