The Archive Hotel Sweifieh was a merchant's house before it was a hotel, and the staircase has not forgotten it. It scores well on locally roasted coffee in the lobby, less so on being the cheapest option in Sweifieh. Bring shoes you can walk in; the floors are old and beautiful and uneven.

Quiet and central, kind staff
Plenty of storage in the Signature Room, which sounds dull until you have unpacked for a fortnight; slept better than at home, which after four flights in a week is saying something. Cheaper than the chain hotels two streets over and considerably nicer.
Coffee at breakfast comes from a machine rather than the bar downstairs, which is a shame. The curtains do not quite meet in the middle, so you are up with the light.

Fine for a couple of nights
You get more for the money here than at the two places I priced up in Sweifieh. Good position overall, and I walked most places rather than paying for cabs. The Cosy Room is well organised and everything has somewhere to go. Easy place to stay on your own, and the area is fine to walk at night.
Storage is five hangers and a shelf, so I lived out of the bags.

Location carries it
Good position overall, and we walked most places rather than paying for cabs. Clean bathroom, fresh towels daily, nothing to complain about - the room was cleaned properly every day and the bins were never left.
The curtains do not quite meet in the middle, so you are up with the light.

Comfortable enough
Fair value for Amman prices, particularly in high season. I left a charger behind and it arrived at home nine days later, no charge for the postage.
Thin walls, so I knew a fair amount about my neighbours and their travel plans.

Everything we hoped for
The air conditioning made the July heat survivable and it runs quietly. Proper shower pressure and hot water immediately, not after a minute of hoping.
Nothing worth mentioning, and that is rare.

Mixed, mostly good
Not fancy, but that was never the point. Good for a few nights alone - I was left to get on with it.
No kettle in the room, which for a British guest is practically a design flaw.
