Design-led without being cold: The Clementine Trastevere is the kind of place where the coffee is good and nobody hurries you. Guests rate it for locally roasted coffee in the lobby and linen by local makers. A grown-up choice for a short stay rather than a base for a family fortnight.

The lowest point of the trip
It is quiet during the day, if that is any use to anyone.
The lock on the door did not engage properly, which is not something you want to discover at midnight. There was a leak from the ceiling in the bathroom that we reported twice and nothing was done. It needs a refurbishment rather than another coat of paint, and the price has not caught up with that.

Fine, and fine is enough
Straight to it: the location is the thing. Easy place to stay on your own, and the area is fine to walk at night. Connection was good enough to work from for a morning.
Coffee at breakfast comes from a machine rather than the bar downstairs, which is a shame.

Would not book again
Two nights, and two would have been plenty. The room was at least clean when we arrived.
The carpet on the fifth floor is due for replacing. For the money we expected a little more attention to detail.

Solid choice, would return
I am fussy about where I sleep. The concierge booked the museum slots I had failed to get online. The restaurant does a short menu properly rather than a long one badly. Spotless, including the places nobody checks - skirting boards, the kettle, under the bed.
No screens on the windows, so it is a choice between the heat and the mosquitoes. Getting a taxi to find the entrance took some explaining.

Restful and central
Two nights in and we were sleeping through until eight, which never happens for us. Records in the room, a proper armchair and the morning coffee that would hold up in any city.
Hot water was slow to arrive on the fifth floor first thing. Loading and unloading outside is awkward on a street that narrow.

Nice place, tired lift
Right, so. Firm mattress, which suits us, and a duvet that is not the usual thin thing. There is a lift, which in a building this old is a small miracle.
Blackout blinds would make a difference in September, when it is bright by half past seven.
