Tucked into a side street in Sweifieh, The Lumen Sweifieh is easy to walk past and hard to forget. Reviews keep coming back to one thing: locally roasted coffee in the lobby. Location does most of the work here, and it does it well.

Would book again tomorrow
Booked late and got lucky. The kind of place you book for two nights and immediately regret not booking for four. We arrived hours early and they took our bags without a fuss, then messaged when the room was ready. Two nights in and we were sleeping through until eight, which never happens for us.
Only that everywhere else now has a lot to live up to.

One night too many
Three rooms on the same floor, which saved a lot of shouting up stairwells. Two bus routes and a tram stop within a few minutes, so we got around easily.
Parking nearby is expensive, though that is Amman rather than the hotel. Hot water was slow to arrive on the fourth floor first thing.

Simple and clean
I am fussy about where I sleep. Easy place to stay on your own, and the area is fine to walk at night.
The furniture is dated and the corridors could do with a repaint.

Underwhelmed but not unhappy
Fine, with caveats. Breakfast is solid rather than lavish - fresh figs and yoghurt and reliable coffee. Nobody blinked at a table for one, which is not true everywhere. Fair value for Amman prices, particularly in high season.
The bed is too firm for me - I ended up putting the spare duvet under the sheet. The bathroom door catches on the bed frame, which tells you the size of the Suite.

Location good, room less so
Three rooms on the same floor, which saved a lot of shouting up stairwells. They keep a pillow menu at reception and actually bring what you ask for. The Cosy Room suited us well for a short stay.
There is a bar on the corner that empties out noisily on a Wednesday night. The kitchen closes at half past nine, which we found out the hard way on the Saturday.

Dirty and badly run
The morning coffee was fine, which is a thin thing to end on.
The kitchen was missing most of what you would need to cook, despite the listing. I reported a broken shower on arrival and it was still broken when I left two days later. No hot water at all on the last morning, and no warning that the boiler was being worked on. It needs a refurbishment rather than another coat of paint, and the price has not caught up with that.
