Exactly right
Turned up late, tired and grumpy, and were looked after. Cheaper than the chain hotels two streets over and considerably nicer. Walking back from Grouse Mountain after dinner took seven minutes and never once felt like a trek.
One person on the desk at nine in the evening means a queue when the airport bus arrives.

Quiet and central, kind staff
Somebody had left a shelf of paperbacks by the window and I got through two of them. Somebody has thought about the art on the walls, and it shows in a way photographs do not capture.
The shower head is fixed high on the wall and cannot be angled.

Better than the street suggests
I uploaded a large file from the room in minutes and nobody at the other end noticed I was away. the flat whites in the lobby is free all day and genuinely good. Walking back from Granville Island after dinner took five minutes and never once felt like a trek.
Coffee at breakfast comes from a machine rather than the bar downstairs, which is a shame. We were reminded about the half past ten checkout twice on the Tuesday, which felt unnecessary.

Some of this worked, some of it did not. Bikes to borrow, which I used on both mornings.
The sofa bed in the Twin Room is not somewhere you would want a second week.

Downtown done properly
Turned up late, tired and grumpy, and were looked after. Blackout curtains that meet in the middle, a mattress with some life in it, and silence after eleven. Fast, stable wifi in the room rather than only in the lobby, which is rarer than it should be. Fifteen rooms, one very good coffee machine and a courtyard nobody talks in above a murmur. For Vancouver, this is a properly central spot without the coach parties.
Blackout blinds would make a difference in November, when it is bright by eight.
