5.1Poor value in Canal Ring
The room was at least clean when we arrived.
Towels are changed only on request, which is sensible but was not explained. Scaffolding went up on the building opposite halfway through our stay.

6.6One night too many
The room was cleaned properly every day and the bins were never left - there is a bakery two doors down that opens at six, which I discovered by accident on the first morning.
The sofa bed in the Suite is not somewhere you would want a second week. Service in the bar was slow when it filled up after eleven.

7.2Left slightly deflated
There is a lift, which we were glad of on the way up with the suitcases. Charming small hotel, and the tiling lifts it above the usual.
It is showing its age in places - a chipped door frame here, a tired carpet there. Wifi does not reach the terrace, which is where you actually want to sit.

8.7Comfortable and well placed
Somebody has thought about the fabrics, and it shows in a way photographs do not capture. Canal Ring has that mix of locals and visitors that makes a place feel alive rather than staged.
We had to be out by nine on the last day, and that is genuinely the worst of it.

7.1Somewhere between fine and not
Mixed feelings about this one. The Terrace Room suited us well for a short stay. The view over the rooftops from the balcony is a proper one.
There is a bar on the corner that empties out noisily on a Wednesday night. Storage is two hangers and a shelf, so we lived out of the bags.

7.2Not quite worth it
Reasonably peaceful at the back of the building. Our taxi driver could not find the entrance and drove past it twice, so save the map pin.
Checkout is half past ten and a late one costs about as much as another night's breakfast.
