Lovely staff, lovely building
Blackout curtains that meet in the middle, a mattress with some life in it, and silence after eleven - coffee on the balcony before breakfast, watching Old Town wake up. Worth the upgrade. Bunks have curtains, a plug and a light each, which is all anyone actually wants.
Checkout at half past ten is early when you have an evening flight.

Wanted to like it more
Clean bed linen, clean towels, clean floors. That is the main thing. Sociable without being a party hostel, and the bunks are sturdy; the terrace is a good place to sit with a book in the late afternoon.
The restaurant is fine but you would not choose it if you were not already staying there.

Disappointing, sadly
Worked well for a group of us, with somewhere to sit together in the evening. We forgot it was a public holiday and they sorted us a table anyway.
No lift, and it is three flights with a hard turn at the top. Worth knowing before you book.

Room for improvement
Right, so. Clean bathroom, fresh towels daily, nothing to complain about. The stairs creak in a way that is either charming or annoying depending on how tired you are.
five floors and no lift - the Bed in 6-bed female dorm is lovely once you get up there with the cases.

Check-in was quick and human, and they remembered our names for the rest of the stay. Bunks have curtains, a plug and a light each, which is all anyone actually wants.
One person on the desk at eleven in the evening means a queue when the airport bus arrives.

Worth it for Old Town
Firm mattress, which is exactly how I like it. The view over the rooftops from the balcony is a proper one. Old Town is pleasant to wander in the evening, and nothing felt far.
Check-in was not until four and the bag room was already full on the Monday.
