Reliable rather than exciting
The dorm was fine and the showers were hot in the morning, which is the real test. Check-in was straightforward and the desk answered questions properly. Unawatuna is a sensible base, a few streets back from the crowds and still close to everything. Wifi was quick enough for email, maps and an evening of streaming.
Parking nearby is expensive, though that is Galle rather than the hotel.

Tired and overpriced
Clean bathroom, fresh towels daily, nothing to complain about. The rate held steady when I added a night, which I appreciated. Comfortable bed, and they brought firmer pillows within ten minutes of asking.
Not much space to move around the bed once a case is open on the floor. Wifi does not reach the terrace, which is where you actually want to sit.

Bag storage on the last day was useful. Comfortable bed, and they brought firmer pillows within ten minutes of asking.
Wifi drops in the far rooms, so I took calls in the lobby. Delivery vans start up under the window from around six.

Not what the photos promised
Clean bathroom, fresh towels daily, nothing to complain about. Three rooms on the same floor, which saved a lot of shouting up stairwells.
The shower takes a good minute to warm up, which adds up over three days. The aircon unit drips onto the balcony floor, which we mentioned on the Wednesday.

Does what it says
Sociable without being a party hostel, and the bunks are sturdy.
The sofa bed in the Bed in 8-bed mixed dorm is not somewhere you would want a second week.

Nice staff, tired building
Unawatuna is pleasant to wander in the evening, and nothing felt far. The bed itself was comfortable enough.
Street noise at the front until the bars close - ask for a room over the courtyard. Building work started at half past seven each morning and nobody had warned me at booking.
