Nothing to complain about, nothing to rave about
Booked late and got lucky. Two bus routes and a tram stop within a few minutes, so we got around easily. The room was cleaned properly every day and the bins were never left. They let us sit in the courtyard with our own wine on the last night. Bikes to borrow, which we used on both mornings.
Getting a taxi to find the entrance took some explaining.

Disappointing, sadly
Some of this worked, some of it did not. The shower at least was hot.
It is showing its age in places - a chipped door frame here, a tired carpet there. The mattress dips in the middle, which after three nights you notice.

Cannot recommend it
Nobody blinked at a table for one, which is not true everywhere.
You cannot set the aircon below twenty-three, which in November is not quite enough. There is construction across the street that starts at half past six, so bring earplugs.

Never again
Cheap, and now I understand why.
I do not enjoy writing reviews like this one. We reported a broken shower on arrival and it was still broken when we left five days later. The heating did not come on for the whole stay and it was November. Nobody told us the restaurant was closed for the week until we turned up hungry on the Saturday.

Really rather good
Turned up late, tired and grumpy, and were looked after. The roof terrace at sunset is the reason to book this place - we went up every night. Plenty of storage in the Bed in 8-bed mixed dorm, which sounds dull until you have unpacked for a fortnight. Coffee on the balcony after dinner, watching St Julian's wake up. Worth the upgrade.
Shower pressure drops off when the floor is busy at about seven.

Expected far more
St Julian's is pleasant to wander in the evening, and nothing felt far.
It is showing its age in places - a chipped door frame here, a tired carpet there. A bottle of water in the room costs what a bottle of wine costs on the corner.
