Our favourite find in Berlin
There is a bakery two doors down that opens at six, which we discovered by accident on the first morning. Double glazing that works, so the tram going past is a rumour rather than an event.
Checkout is ten and a late one costs about as much as another night's breakfast.

Location carries it
There is a coffee machine in the room, which saved us a few euros a day. Neukölln is pleasant to wander in the evening, and nothing felt far. Lovely for a couple of nights away, quiet and personal.
The city tax and the cleaning fee together came as a surprise at checkout.

Well run and welcoming
Booked this on a whim and glad I did. Nobody made me feel odd about eating alone, and the desk checked I had got back on the wet night. Firm mattress, which suits me, and a duvet that is not the usual thin thing. Elke on reception had me checked in inside three minutes and drew a map of the area on the spot.
Waiting twenty seconds for the lift each time adds up when you go back for a jumper.

Great few days in Neukölln
Astonishingly quiet for somewhere this central - we never heard the street once. Late nights out and nobody once tutted at us coming in at three.
The lift is slow enough that we walked down from the fourth floor most days.
