9.2Well run and welcoming
Barceloneta has that mix of locals and visitors that makes a place feel alive rather than staged. For what we paid in September, this was the best value stay of the trip by a distance.

8.8Would recommend with one caveat
Family dinner in the kitchen on Wednesday for almost nothing and I met half the hostel. Worth every penny, and we do not say that often. Not a mark anywhere, and the room smelled of nothing at all, which is exactly right.
No screens on the windows, so it is a choice between the heat and the mosquitoes.

Worked well for a group of us, with somewhere to sit together in the evening.
The bathroom light is on a motion sensor and comes on if you turn over in bed.

10.0Perfect for a long weekend
Oil, salt, coffee and a corkscrew already there - whoever set this up has actually travelled. Spotless, including the places nobody checks - skirting boards, the kettle, under the bed. I arrived hours early and they took the cases without a fuss, then messaged when the room was ready. The common room does that rare thing of being sociable without being loud at two in the morning.

9.0Happy we booked it
Not fancy, but that was never the point. Plenty of storage in the Bed in 6-bed female dorm, which sounds dull until you have unpacked for a fortnight. Travelling on my own, I never felt uneasy walking back into Barceloneta late at night. Slept better than at home, which after four flights in a week is saying something.
Only that everywhere else now has a lot to live up to.

8.7Great few days in Barceloneta
The common room does that rare thing of being sociable without being loud at two in the morning.
It is uphill from the metro, which you feel with the suitcases in the heat. Checkout is half past nine and a late one costs about as much as another night's breakfast.
