Urban Sleepers Dublin runs a free walking tour every morning and a family dinner most nights. Reviews keep coming back to one thing: privacy curtains on bunks. The photographs are honest, which is rarer than it should be.

Decent, with reservations
I forgot it was a public holiday and they sorted me a table anyway - the Bed in 4-bed dorm with bathroom suited me well for a short stay.
Nowhere to put anything in the bathroom except the edge of the basin.

Half worked, half didn't
Somebody had left a shelf of paperbacks by the window and I got through two of them. You get more for the money here than at the two places I priced up in Ranelagh. Firm mattress, which is exactly how I like it.
The connection slowed to nothing each evening from about nine, when the place fills up. It is uphill from the metro, which you feel with the suitcases in the heat.

Clean and quiet, close to everything
There is a bakery two doors down that opens at six, which we discovered by accident on the first morning. Oil, salt, coffee and a corkscrew already there - whoever set this up has actually travelled.
Wasps around the breakfast tables in July, which is hardly their fault.

Right for a short stay
Comfortable bed, and they brought firmer pillows within ten minutes of asking; someone has planted herbs in pots by the door and you are clearly meant to use them.
Loading and unloading outside is awkward on a street that narrow. The extractor does not cope, so the mirror is useless after the first shower.

Checked out early and did not look back
One of the cleaners was lovely and clearly working with nothing. Honestly, very little. We were out from early until late to avoid being in the Bed in 6-bed female dorm.
Nobody was on the desk for long stretches, so we stood in the lobby with the cases for twenty-five minutes at check-in. The bed linen was stained. We asked for it to be changed and waited until nearly nine that night. The Bed in 6-bed female dorm had not been cleaned properly: hair in the shower tray and dust along every skirting board.

Comfortable beds, good coffee
Somebody on the desk at three in the morning when my flight finally landed, still cheerful. Not a mark anywhere, and the room smelled of nothing at all, which is exactly right. Underfloor heating in the bathroom in April is a small luxury that I noticed every morning.
One person on the desk at half past nine in the evening means a queue when the airport bus arrives.
