Quieter than the average hostel, with a separate lounge for people who want to read. You get lockers and charging at every bunk without paying Lisbon centre prices for it. Female-only dorms are available on every floor.

Some good, some frustrating
Nobody blinked at a table for one, which is not true everywhere. There is a shortcut through the square that saves about five minutes and somebody drew it on my map.
Not enough sockets for eight people, so charging is a nightly negotiation. The bathroom is clean but the fittings belong to a previous decade.

Lovely, if you don't mind stairs
We nearly booked somewhere flashier and I am glad we did not. Housekeeping were quietly excellent and clearly took pride in the rooms. Oil, salt, coffee and a corkscrew already there - whoever set this up has actually travelled.
The walk back from Belém Tower is all uphill, which we had not thought about.

Everything we hoped for
Late nights out and nobody once tutted at us coming in at three. Sat on the terrace with a glass of wine watching the light go off the rooftops. That is the memory. No faff with the room: dark, cool and quiet by ten.
The shower head is fixed high on the wall and cannot be angled.

Not what the photos promised
Good position overall, and we walked most places rather than paying for cabs. There is a good market on Saturday about seven minutes away that nobody had told us about.
We were reminded about the half past nine checkout twice on the Friday, which felt unnecessary. You cannot set the aircon below twenty-three, which in October is not quite enough.

Sound choice near São Jorge Castle
Easy place to be a group without annoying anyone. They lent us an umbrella on the wet Tuesday and did not ask for it back until we left. The bathroom is cleverly laid out and the shower is hot and fast. The room was cleaned properly every day and the bins were never left.

The desk kept an eye out for me without making a thing of it. The aircon held the room cool all through the September heat.
It is a good twenty-five minutes from the nearest tram stop, further than the listing suggests.
