Small place, big heart
There is a shortcut through the square that saves about five minutes and somebody drew it on our map. We were at Spice farms in ten minutes on foot, which changed how we used the days.
Loading and unloading outside is awkward on a street that narrow.

Pleasant few nights
Check-in was quick and human, and they remembered my names for the rest of the stay. Nobody made me feel odd about eating alone, and the desk checked I had got back on the wet night. Firm mattress, which suits me, and a duvet that is not the usual thin thing.
The walk back from Stone Town is all uphill, which I had not thought about.

eight minutes from Prison Island
Came for two nights, stayed four. We booked for three nights and extended to five, which tells you what we thought of the price.
The last two hundred metres are steep and cobbled - not a problem, just plan for it.

Fine, but not at that price
Clean bed linen, clean towels, clean floors. That is the main thing. The aircon held the room cool all through the June heat. The rate held steady when I added a night, which I appreciated.
Bin lorry at about half past six on the Thursday, and I heard every bottle. The car park is a ten-minute walk and costs more per night than I expected.

Right for a short stay
Good for a few nights alone - I was left to get on with it.
It is showing its age in places - a chipped door frame here, a tired carpet there.

Ask for a room at the back
Not fancy, but that was never the point. Bunks have curtains, a plug and a light each, which is all anyone actually wants. We were at Spice farms in five minutes on foot, which changed how we used the days.
Street parking is free after ten and impossible before it.
