Good location, average room
Castillogrande is a sensible base, a few streets back from the crowds and still close to everything. Good set-up for families - a shallow pool, high chairs and staff who do not mind noise.
Breakfast stops at eleven even at weekends, which felt early.

Better than the photographs
The airport transfer was waiting with our name up at one in the morning, which took all the stress out of arriving. Not a mark anywhere, and the room smelled of nothing at all, which is exactly right - we are not usually breakfast people and we went down every morning. Two pools means the quiet one stays quiet, which we did not expect.
The last two hundred metres are steep and cobbled - not a problem, just plan for it. The shower door leaks a little onto the bathroom floor.

Would book again tomorrow
The spa is the real thing rather than a room with a massage table - we booked twice. Easy to park right outside and no hunting around at midnight. Youssef at the concierge desk got us a table at a place that had told us it was fully booked.

They lent us an umbrella on the wet Tuesday and did not ask for it back until we left. Late nights out and nobody once tutted at us coming in at three.
Parking nearby is expensive, though that is Cartagena rather than the hotel.

Castillogrande done properly
Long weekend, first time in Castillogrande. Hard to beat the position: City Walls one way, the market the other, and no need for a taxi all week. Someone has planted herbs in pots by the door and you are clearly meant to use them.
Checkout at half past ten is early when you have an evening flight. Breakfast is charged separately and is not far off cafe prices in Castillogrande.

Somewhere between fine and not
Some of this worked, some of it did not. Good set-up for families - a shallow pool, high chairs and staff who do not mind noise. Beach access is easy and there is a shower to rinse off on the way back.
Footsteps from the floor above from around quarter past seven each morning. Housekeeping missed us entirely on the Tuesday.
