Ask for a room at the back
The common room does that rare thing of being sociable without being loud at two in the morning.
The walk back from Hollywood Walk of Fame is all uphill, which we had not thought about.

Small place, big heart
We nearly booked somewhere flashier and I am glad we did not. They kept the cases until the evening flight and even brought them down to the taxi. Four of us across two rooms on the same corridor, which they arranged without being asked. We arrived hours early and they took the suitcases without a fuss, then messaged when the room was ready.
One person on the desk at eleven in the evening means a queue when the airport bus arrives.

Very good, minor niggles
Lockers are big enough for a sixty-litre pack, which almost nowhere manages. West Hollywood has that mix of locals and visitors that makes a place feel alive rather than staged.
The shower door leaks a little onto the bathroom floor.

Poor value in West Hollywood
Wanted to like it more than we did. Room was warm enough in November, which was the main worry.
The city tax and the cleaning fee together came as a surprise at checkout. The connection slowed to nothing each evening from about eleven, when the place fills up.

Lovely staff, lovely building
Not a mark anywhere, and the room smelled of nothing at all, which is exactly right. For Los Angeles, this is a properly central spot without the coach parties. For what I paid in July, this was the best value stay of the trip by a distance.
I was reminded about the half past nine checkout twice on the Tuesday, which felt unnecessary.
